PlayStation 5: It's Likely In An Advanced Design State, Says Ex-PlayStation Boss

Andrew House, who’s not the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Anymore, knows a thing or two.

Polygon reported about the GamesBeat conference, where Andrew House was also talking. He said that the PlayStation 5‘s design is likely in an advanced state at the moment, but it’s not a valid reason to see the console launch shortly. He explains it by the hardware manufacturers’ will to see the console generation’s cycle to be extended as much as possible – the longer the generation is, the better for them.

„I’m very bullish on longer life cycles for consoles. Consoles are so under-represented and under-penetrated in so many markets around the globe. There’s so much potential. Let’s not forget that China is still largely [untapped],” House said. (And he’s right! China’s lift on the console ban still has a lot of work for Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft…) House added that the mid-generation upgrade (PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One X) means that there’s still a lot of life for the PlayStation 4.

So, it seems the 2020 launch for the PlayStation 5 is getting more and more likely…
