System Shock Remake Is Back In Development, But…

…but that word „but” is in the title for a good reason.

Previously, we wrote about how Nightdive, the developers of System Shock remake, halted the development to rethink their plans and their vision. (The game did NOT get canceled!) However, Stephen Kick, the CEO of Nightdive, told PCGamer something different at this year’s GDC (Game Developers Conference).

„We understood based on the backer feedback, especially, that we weren’t going in the right direction with the game, what we promised to them. That’s what really caused the shift in what we’re doing now, which is going back to what we’d established and represented with the Unity demo,” Kick said.

After getting 1.3 million dollars, Nightdive swapped engines to Unreal Engine 4, which they will stick to after the „refocus.” However, the remake will be close to the original games. Larry Kuperman, the business development head, said that the feature creep and the team trying to put their stamp onto the remake would not have made it „true to the System Shock vision.”

But when will the remake will launch? This is where that but word comes in from the title: Nightdive doesn’t think that it would arrive before Q1 2020. By then, we might even see System Shock 3 (yes, that is a thing!) launch!
