The Co-Creator Of Counter-Strike Was Arrested!

Jess Cliffe was arrested on Thursday morning.

Counter-Strike, Valve‘s franchise, is still successful today. It was created in 1999 by 36-year-old Jess Cliffe and Minh Le. The former was arrested yesterday by Seattle police with the suspicion of sexual exploitation of a child. A Valve spokesperson told Kotaku that they have suspended Cliffe until they learn more.

KIRO 7, a news channel, reports that Cliffe, who worked on Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Postal 2 (as well as being the voice of the „Counter-Terrorists win!” line in Counter-Strike), was not charged with a crime when he was arrested.

ESPN quotes Washington state’s legislature of sexual exploitation of children. It „can include elements of commercial sexual abuse of a minor or ‘depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit content,’ such as creation, distribution or possession of depictions of child pornography.”

It’s a large fall from the co-creator of Counter-Strike. He will have a hearing today afternoon – if we learn something new, we’ll return to the subject this weekend.
