Evolve Turns Free-To-Play!

Evolve is not the kind of the game that we play nowadays, and we say this comment without any negative thoughts behind it. The developers, Turtle Rock, know our feelings well: they will change the game.

From today, Evolve becomes free-to-play on PC, but the PS4 and the X1 will likely change the model as well shortly. Those players who already bought Evolve will receive a Founder status, as well as receive „gifts, rewards, and special access” as long as Turtle Rock develops the game actively.

Evolve stepped off from Steam, and it goes back to a beta phase until the developers perform a „vigorous overhaul.” The hunter characters will be reworked to have a balance between the hunters and the monsters, because nowadays, hunters mostly rely on skilled trappers and medics. The maps and the user interface will receive an improvement, the tutorials, and the progression will also be overhauled, plus players will get more customization options.

Evolve‘s performance, loading times, and the time between launching the game and getting into a match, as well as the stability, will also be the devs’ aim to improve while also getting rid of bugs. They know that they have to have an open, regular communication with the players. Turtle Rock issues an open letter about their feelings: „Yes, there was excitement. There was also disappointment – for players and us. The DLC shitstorm hit full force and washed away people’s enthusiasm, dragging us further and further from that first magical pick-up-and-play experience. We want that magic back, and we aim to make it happen. We have lived and breathed Evolve for over four years, and we feel like we are just getting started. Since launch, we realized Evolve had provided people some of their most exciting gaming moments, and we want to make more of those for everyone… well, everyone who is OK with being periodically murdered (brutally) by terrifying alien monsters.”

The next few weeks and months will see Evolve transforming into something else. Good luck for the developers, and thanks for the down-to-earth approach. We can’t understand the term enthusiasm, though: Evolve got a 75 average on all three platforms in 2015, and we can only say that the game is good, but not more. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
