[TGS 2018] The PlayStation Vita Is Dead For Good!

If even Japan sees the PlayStation Vita (which still has decent sales and games over there) getting its manufacturing stopped, then we can say that it’s the end of the road for it…

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s senior vice president, Hiroyuki Oda told Famitsu at the Tokyo Game Show what the situation is: „Currently, we do not have any plans regarding a new handheld device. In Japan, we will manufacture PlayStation Vita until 2019. From there, shipping will end.”

Although it’s somewhat unrelated, Oda also confirmed that the PlayStation Classic (which we discussed in detail yesterday) would have a different game list in Japan than in the West. They pick games that are popular, still have a lot of fans, and are representative of the PlayStation brand. It’s likely that there will be a difference between Europe and North America as well then.

So, this is the end for the PlayStation Vita – by 2019, it will be seven years old, and the Nintendo 3DS (which came out before the Vita) is still being supported by the big N. RIP, PlayStation Vita…

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
