Red Dead Redemption 2: Red Dead Online Will Get A Public Beta!

As expected after the Grand Theft Auto V-GTA Online axis, Rockstar has built a massive online component into Red Dead Redemption 2 as well.

Let’s see the developers’ announcement except for one PR-ish sentence: „Red Dead Online is a new online connected experience set against the backdrop of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s enormous open world. It is an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways. Using the gameplay of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players.

Red Dead Online is planned for launch in November 2018, initially as a public beta, with more news to come soon. As with most online experiences of this size and scale, there will inevitably be some turbulence at launch. […] Access to Red Dead Online is free to anyone with a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 on either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.”

Unfortunately, the last sentence doesn’t explain whether we will need a PlayStation Plus/Xbox Live Gold subscription to play, but due to Red Dead Online being online, it’s likely that we’ll need a sub. Also, this statement seems to hint at a repeat of Grand Theft Auto V: instead of making single-player DLC, Rockstar will likely concentrate on the online instead…

Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch on October 26 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, followed by the Red Dead Online public beta launch in November.
