Ex-EA Boss Says It’s Still Early For Customers To Adapt Virtual Reality!

John Riccitiello, who formerly worked at Electronic Arts as their chief operating officer, thinks the hardware is still weak, and that’s just a small part of the problem.

Riccitiello is now the CEO of Unity Technologies, and, according to Upload VR, he said at Techcrunch Disrupt that we’re still far from seeing virtual reality get a consumer market.

„They’re not cheap enough; they don’t work well enough, you don’t have enough good control systems, you can’t see your arms and your legs in most of them and interactively use them, there’s not a lot of content. Augmented and virtual reality are mostly to this day been launched to developers. I mean, name the content. It’s not there yet.”

Unity works on other things as well – with Google Cloud, they revealed Open Match, which is an open-source, game engine agnostic matchmaking technology that allows the developers to focus on the matchmaking logic instead of creating the tech from scratch.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
