PlayStation VR finally an official price and release date! [VIDEO]

After the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, Sony finally unveiled all the details, effectively dropping a bomb by doing so. The Japanese company went into detail about multiple things with the PSVR: price, release date, and so on.

Let’s start with the pricing. We guessed correctly about the price: the PSVR will cost less than the Rift and the Vive. Sony’s headset will cost 400 dollars/euros/350 British Pounds. However, you must get a PlayStation Camera too, if you want to use the PSVR – that costs around 60 dollars, and even with that, you’ll still have a lower price than the Rift. (Not to mention the Move, which is another required hardware for some games! No wonder Sony plans a VR+Camera+Move bundle – no details are known at the moment.) When will the PSVR launch? Later than the rumors said – instead of the first half in 2016, Sony will launch it in October.

Oculus VR’s founder, Palmer Luckey thinks that the PlayStation VR‘s pricing is a totally fair deal. This comment is a return of favors to Sony‘s previous statement that the Rift will provide a higher quality VR-experience than their own product. Respectful opinion on Luckey’s end.

Sony also announced a Battlefront VR-experience. They are working together with Electronic Arts and Disney on this project. Andrew House, Sony Computer Entertainment’s boss, says that we should expect a cinematic gaming experience out of the „VR Battlefront.” No other details mentioned – we should get to know more during E3.

For the lineup of games, we should expect about 50 titles, one of them will be the previously mentioned Battlefront one. Let’s mentioned a few others: Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Rigs: Mechanized Combat League, Rez Infinite, Eve: Valkyrie, Wayward Sky.

That’s all she wrote. PlayStation VR is going to be the entry-level VR device. It’s not going to require a powerful PC, a PlayStation 4 (as well as a camera and a Move) will be enough. As the VR will launch with a large install base (over 37 million PlayStation 4s sold according to the latest official sales figures), Sony will be on a good track to sell the PSVR to many players.
