PlayStation 4’s first anniversary through new stats by Sony

Today it’s the the first anniversary for Sony’s PS4 in North America, and to celebrate the occasion, SCEA president CEO Shawn Layden released a new infographic (above) that shows some of the PS4’s most impressive trophies. Let’s take a look at the most important facts below.

Key informations:

PS4 has shipped 13.5 million systems worldwide (that’s 25% more than Xbox One)

PS4 users have tallied 1 billion hours played online

PlayStation Network has 56 million “active” users

PS4 users have pressed the share button 530 million times

PlayStation Plus has 7.9 million members; subscribers are up 270% since launch

September 2014 was the biggest month ever for PSN in terms of revenue

Layden, who took over for Jack Tretton following his departure from PlayStation in March, thanked fans for their support on the PlayStation Blog.

Next month also marks the 20th anniversary of the first PlayStation, originally releasing in Japan on December 3, 1994. In his blog post, Layden took the time to say that Sony will be publishing a series of blog posts in the lead-up that “take a look back” at the first two decades of PlayStation. He expanded, stating:

“Those of you who have been with us from the beginning, along with those who are new to PlayStation family, are in for a special treat so please stay tuned.”
